Neo Griot is a performance collective, committed to restoring the spoken art forms.

Neo Griot is made up of several members some of whom are poets, emcees, and vocalists.  Neo Griot is essentially a shared idea, grounded in the notion that 'Art is Life' and through art, life can be enhanced (and vice versa).

The name Neo Griot comes from  the combination of the word Neo, which simply means 'New' and Griot which is a word that refers to a cast of people in many African countries that are responsible for 'keeping the history of the people.'  The Griot often entertains the community with great stories of its past and present.  The traditional Griot is truly reflective.  Neo Griot is not simply a hip hop / spoken word squad¡­ Neo Griot is the extension of a tradition.
